A friendly reminder, one that came to me as I was lurking on other sites. Hillary Clinton still has debt from the primary campaign that needs to be paid down. Your assitance, in the form of a contribution, enables Hillary to spend time doing what you want her to do; campaign for Barack Obama for President. If you're a Hillary supporter, if you're a Barack supporter, the end result is the same.

Considering McCain has caught up to Obama in fund raising perhaps we should fund an active campaign instead of trying to cut the campaign debt of a candidate worth 9 figures.

is going to help her pay down some of her debt; he's holding a fundraiser down in New Mexico for her.

I wonder how the debt relief efforts are going; Obama put several people in charge of it and I would like a report if we could get one next week.

Nope and your link doesn't send one to an actual page because I believe the link is to your contribution, which we obviously should not be able to see.

Some of these Obama folks should realize that paying down Hillary's debt is in his best interest; he put several people in charge of taking care of this and I hope it's going well. The biggest "unity" story in the next month could be the story of Obama covering most of her debt; I think even the most ardent Hillary holdouts would appreciate Obama's work on her behalf.

At least he's doing something; McCain said he'd help Guiliani pay down his debt but allegedly hasn't even ponied up $4600 of his own money. He hasn't helped Romney with his debt either.

I don't think the first reply reflects bitterness or small-mindedness as much as it does a certain degree of pragmatism.

If I have a choice between making a donation that will directly help the Democratic nominee win the presidency, and a donation that will help the person who didn't win the nomination to retire her campaign debt, I'll choose the former ten times out of ten.

Donating to retire Sen. Clinton's debt is an option for those who have money to spare, but I'd personally rather have those who can make only one donation make it to the Obama campaign.

No one's saying it's your job. But if you support Barack Obama, and Barack and Hillary spend time to pay down the debt, then that's less time they spend trying to get Barack elected, and that's why your contribution to Hillary actually assists Barack.

Barack shouldnt spend more than a few hours trying to pay down her debt. No one forced her to loan herself so much money, and she took the risk that she would lose the nomination and have to spend a number of years fundraising.

Besides, they are multimillionaires who can make that money back by doing any number of things.

I'm just saying I work as an organizer, make nothing, (which im totally fine with) and don't think its my obligation to contribute money someone in the highest economic eschalon in our society.

You are missing the point (2.00 / 1)

the more time Hillary spends trying to pay off her debt, the less time she gets to spend campaigning with Obama and raising money for him. So it's in Obama's best interest, even if it's not due to the goodness of his heart, to make a strong good-faith effort at helping HRC with her debt.

You'll see less of what happened last Friday if HRC is busy during the summer trying to find out ways to pay off her debt if Obama supporters aren't also chipping in.
